Oddly enough, one of the last areas of modern life where it is almost impossible to choose aesthetics is when it comes to assistive devices.

But why?

That question was the starting point for the development of Vilhelm Hertz crutches, which today are designed, owned, operated and developed by five friends.

I 2016 blev Kristoffer Vilhelm opsøgt af en permanent krykkebruger, Lea, der bad om hjælp med at reparere reparere den gamle håndlavede krykke, eller eventuelt hjælpe hende med fremstille en ny albuestok.

It became the last possibility. For why repair on something that could be made even better from new?

Kristoffer Vilhelm contacted his friend Thomas Hertz with the idea of developing beautiful and comfortable crutches. Kristoffer developed design and turned wood, Thomas solved technical problems with metal and together Vilhelm Hertz was created.

In 2020, Thomas left the project Vilhelm Hertz, and three new owners took over. See the current team below.

It is the short story about how the idea behind Vilhelm Hertz was born.

Human dignity in the center

For many people with disabilities, it can feel like an extra stigma that the aids are so conspicuous and uniform - despite the fact that they have actually been tried to be made discreet.

The feeling of visibility one does not want is there, and here it is then, we will try to go another way.

We want to do something that is just very visible to break the stigma. And why so? Well, if we are to break a stigma, the breach does not come from the outside world, but from ourselves. One must show that one is proud to be oneself.

That is why we produce crutches that you can proudly show off with and that you can help to make your mark on.

In our design, we have chosen to emphasize that this is a beautiful work of art that must fit a purpose. Just like a designer chair needs to be fit to sit on while being beautiful.

Når du køber en krykke hos Vilhelm Hertz er de designet og bygget af os selv og andre lokale håndværkere i Halsnæs. Det er med andre ord Danish Design i den stolte danske tradition.

We are craftsmen of a high professional standard, and we make every single crutch especially for you. All models are varied according to your wishes and needs.

So you can choose aesthetics AND comfort if you have a disability.

“Some people have a disability that requires an aid. They are not disabled. That distinction is essential for us in Vilhelm Hertz. ”
